The Gionee A1 (e.g A1 0301 V6107) runs on Android 7 Nougat and is powered by the MT6755 (Mediatek Helio P10) SoC.

It has 5.5-inch amoled display with 4GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage with support for MicroSD card up to 256GB. It packs a 13MP rear camera and 16MP front camera. With 4G LTE support and 4010mAh battery.

If you own this device and would like to gain root privileges so that you can install apps that require root access or to install Custom ROMs, follow the steps given below.

Warning: Rooting your Gionee A1 would void the warranty. Sometimes, if you do not follow the steps carefully you might also brick your device and if that happens we are not liable. Please proceed with caution.

All thanks to team Hovatek for this tutorial.
There are three main steps to rooting this device.

  1. Unlock the Bootloader of the Gionee A1*.
  2. Flashing the Hovatek Philz recovery.img
  3. Flashing the SuperSU.zip

Follow the steps below to grant root access to the Gionee A1

  • Download either of the two custom recovery for Gionee A1 below:
  • Setup ADB and Fastboot on the PC using this guide.
  • Using the Philz recovery method.
  • Extract and copy the Philz recovery.img into the same folder as the fastboot.exe and adb.exe.
  • Unlock the Bootloader of the Gionee A1 using this guide.
  • Download SuperSU 2.78.zip.
  • Copy SuperSU.zip to the phone's External storage (MicroSD card).
  • Connect the phone to the PC via USB cord while it's switched On and boot it into Fastboot (as instructed in the Bootloader unlock guide; don't forget to re-enable OEM unlocking and USB Debugging)
  • When the phone enters Fastboot, load the Philz recovery to the phone by typing the command below then pressing Enter

Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img

  • The phone should automatically boot into Philz recovery mode.
  • In Philz recovery, you use the Volume buttons to navigate and Power button to select.
  • Select Install Zip
  • Navigate to the location of the SuperSU2.78.zip on the SD Card and select it.
  • Wait till flashing is complete.
  • If you are prompted to fix root, select No.
  • Reboot the phone.
  • Confirm Root by installing and running Root Checker
